Jefferson Elementary is getting ready for an October filled with books, special events, and opportunities to build a love of reading!

The Scholastic Book Fair arrives next week, giving students and families a chance to discover new stories and find their next favorite book. Families can also explore the online Scholastic Book Fair and shop to support Jefferson’s school library.

Adding to the excitement, Jefferson will welcome children’s picture book author and professional actor Justin Colón on October 21, 2026, for a special author visit and book signing. His humorous stories, filled with mischievous creatures and playful adventures, offer students a fun opportunity to connect with an author and celebrate reading.

Families can pre-order personalized, signed copies of books by Colón for $17 each, giving students a special keepsake from the visit.

Throughout the month, students are encouraged to keep reading and record their daily reading minutes on their Monthly Reading Logs. Reading regularly helps students build strong habits, and completed logs give them an opportunity to earn rewards. Families can support their readers by helping them fill out their logs each evening and reminding them to turn them in at the end of the month.

We look forward to celebrating a month of reading, discovery, and fun with our Jefferson Tigers!
