The Pryor Tigers soared past the Bishop Kelley Comets this past Friday night 38-19.
Bishop Kelley scored first but the Tigers answered right back with a Braden Ward touchdown run. The Comets found the end zone again before the end of the 1st quarter and led 13-6 headed into the 2nd quarter. The Tigers went back on top, 14-13, after a touchdown pass from Braden Ward to Brock Ward. The two-point conversion was successful as the 6'3", 340-lb Mason "Big Mac" McAlvain ran it in. Still in the 2nd quarter, Jaron Bailey scored from 40 yards out to extend the lead to 22-13 but Bishop Kelley scored before the half to make it 22-19.
The second half was dominated by the Tigers defense and the offense sealed a trip to the Quarterfinals behind receiving touchdowns by Gavin Roberts and Kaden Rice. Kyson Spencer added a late field goal to give the Tigers a 38-19 victory.
The Tigers will travel to Newcastle this Friday night with a trip to the semifinals on the line. Pryor Head Coach, Kenny Davis knows this will be another tough test.
"I think it will be important to get settled in early. Newcastle is a good football team and similar to Collinsville, in the thing that stands out is their size. The QB and RB are both really good players and it will be important to stop them from running the football."
Kickoff for the quarterfinal matchup with the Newcastle Racers will be at 7:00 PM inside Racer Stadium (101 N Main Street, Newcastle, OK 73065). Tickets can be purchased online using the GoFan app($8.35) or at the gate for $10.
"When you play in quarterfinal games everyone is good. We need to play well early, take care of the ball, and be the more physical team," Davis adds. "I think it's a good matchup and should be a great game."
