The Cross Country Boys and Girls will be in Tahlequah this evening for the Metro Lakes Conference Meet. The girls will run at 5:30 PM with the boys following at 6:00 PM.
The boys team is riding high and are hoping to improve on what has been an excellent season so far. "For the first time in many years, even decades, we have a legitimate shot at winning the conference meet. The #2 ranked team in 5A is Tahlequah, who we have beaten twice this year, " said Head Coach Jamie Nofsinger. This time beating Tahlequah won't come without challenges, "We will be on their home course today, so they will be bringing their A game."
Looking ahead to regionals and state, Coach Nofsinger believes in his squad, "Depending on what regional assignment we get, we have a chance to place anywhere from 1st to 3rd. At the very least we are shooting for a podium finish, at the best a regional championship. Bishop Kelley is very tough this year, so if we draw the same region as them it will be difficult. Either way we are shooting for the top spot."
The Boys Cross Country team won the State Championship in 1980. The highest place at state since then was a 5th place finish. They will be looking to improve on that this year.
On the girls side, injuries have bit the Tiger this season but Head Coach Melissa Harlow is staying confident, "Our team is young and talented, if we can over come injuries and get healthy we definitely have the potential to qualify as team for the state meet! "
Good Luck to both squads today in Tahlequah.
