Roosevelt’s Friday morning kicked off with some friendly competition during the annual Roosevelt Spelling Bee!

Before the first word was called, Roosevelt Principal Brian Bradshaw met with the contestants for a quick pep talk in the library. He encouraged the 16 young Tigers, reminding them they had already shown leadership simply by stepping up to the challenge.

Then it was time to take the microphone. One by one, students faced the quiet gym—its atmosphere charged with focus—as Assistant Superintendent John Potter called out each word. Judges Candice McCuistion, Chasidy Donnelly, and Angela Miller were ready with scorecards in hand; each speller looked their way, hoping to see the green card signaling a correct spelling and a spot in the next round. Round after round, the field narrowed from sixteen to five, then to three finalists.

As the winners were announced, the gym erupted in applause as students celebrated their classmates’ hard work, focus, and courage—proof that leadership at Roosevelt looks like showing up, trying something challenging, and cheering others on.
