Students began the 2025–2026 school year with east entrances temporarily closed and the steady hum of construction echoing throughout the day. Recently, we took a walk with Jim Trout, Pryor Public Schools’ Bond and Special Services Director, through the new east side addition to see firsthand how long-term planning is paying off with enhanced opportunities for Tiger students and programs.
The project was designed with several key goals in mind: expanding facilities to meet the growing demands of Pryor athletics, increasing student security by bringing access to gyms and athletic spaces under one roof, and adding a new storm shelter on the east side of the campus to ensure staff and students can move quickly into a secure area during severe weather.
Construction began in early 2025 and accelerated once students were out for the summer. Demolition of the old gym created space for crews to bring in cranes and heavy equipment for dirt work and framing. The new structure now connects the existing high school building with the Burdick Center, creating a seamless and secure flow between facilities.
On the public side, Tiger fans will enter the new addition from the east, directly behind the Burdick Center. A central hallway features a ticket booth, concession stand, and restrooms. The entrance is fully ADA accessible, with a ramp leading into the building and an additional ramp connecting to the Burdick Center.
Inside, the new wrestling complex includes a newly constructed wrestling room that connects to the existing space, providing separate areas for boys’ and girls’ wrestling teams. Each area includes its own locker rooms to support growing programs.
Just west of the wrestling area is the newly constructed gym. Designed to accommodate two volleyball games simultaneously with the use of a partition, the gym also doubles as a storm shelter. It occupies much of the footprint of the former gym. The space includes locker rooms, restrooms, coaching offices, and storage areas. Nearby, a hallway houses a media room, athletic training room, hospitality room, additional offices, and a dedicated space to honor athletic achievements.
Extending south from the new gym are separate practice spaces for Pom and Cheer. Each area includes locker rooms, coaching offices, and storage, along with high windows that provide abundant natural light.
Once completed, students will be able to move from the AVRA Center to the Burdick Center entirely under one roof—significantly increasing campus security by eliminating the need to exit the building during the school day. Tiger Stadium is also just a short walk away, reducing the need to transport students for practices and events.
As the east side addition takes shape, it stands as a visible example of thoughtful planning and community investment—designed to support student safety, strengthen programs, and serve Pryor Tigers for years to come.
