General Job Description: Performs any combination of following instructional tasks in classroom to assist teaching staff of public elementary or secondary school.

 Qualifications:       To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of internet software; spreadsheet software and word processing software. Must possess an Oklahoma Title I Paraprofessional Teaching Credential (Teaching Assistant) or meet the qualifications for the credential before employment can begin.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.

  1. Prepares lesson outline and plan in assigned area and submits outline to teacher for review.

  1. Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.

  1. Presents subject matter to students, utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion, and supervised role playing. 

  1. Prepares, administers, and grades examinations.

  1. Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.

  1. Confers with parents on progress of students.

Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Job responsibilities may include both inside and outside duties.  Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.  Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend at the waist; stoop, kneel, crouch; lift/move up to 20 pounds; handle objects and tools with hands; repetitive use of finger and hands.  

Occasional Requirements:  Reach with hands and arms overhead above shoulder and horizontally; lift/                      move up to 40 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.


Hearing/Speaking: Adequate to exchange information.
