JOB DESCRIPTION
General Job Description: The school nurse possesses the critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to assess the nursing/healthcare needs of students and staff. The school nurse promotes the optimum health of students to achieve their individualized educational goals.
Qualifications:
Current nursing license from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing
Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate with Nurse endorsement
Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree, or diploma in Nursing.
Clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in a pediatric setting is desirable
Knowledge of internet software, student information systems, curriculum software, spreadsheet software and word processing software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Adherence to the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.
2. Assesses and evaluates physical, psychosocial needs of students and staff.
3. Establishes and implements individual health care plans for students with special needs.
4. Participates in parent/staff conferences of students with special needs.
5. Provides health counseling for students, staff and parents.
6. Establishes and maintains liaison between school and community in all health-related areas.
7. Provides information and expertise as resource person in health instruction and referral service.
8. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
9. Administers medication and treatment.
10. Maintains health records on all students.
11. Reviews student immunization records and maintains an immunization schedule for students to complete immunization requirements as required by the State Immunization Law.
12. Implements school board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious diseases or conditions.
13. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in school.
14. Conducts health-screening programs.
15. Maintains inventory and orders health supplies and materials.
16. Conducts health-related training for students.
17. Provides blood borne pathogen training for school employees and maintains records of such as required by OSHA.
18. Completes accident/incident reports on students, employees, and others.
19. Documents all health services provided for students and staff.
20. Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team.
21. Maintains consistent and punctual attendance.
22. Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or administrator.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Job responsibilities may include both inside and outside duties. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Occasional Requirements: Reach with hands and arms overhead above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 40 pounds.
Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
Hearing/Speaking: Adequate to exchange information.
